    The moon shines in the distance as rockets explode over West Haven’s Savin Rock landmark in a shower of red, white, blue and orange sparks at the Savin Rock Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday. The 15-minute, $25,000 pyrotechnic show, presented by the Savin Rock Fireworks Committee, was rescheduled from July 3 because of severe thunderstorms.

  • TKM performs July 18
    TKM performs July 18
    Teach Kids Music’s All-Star Band will be performing a headline concert on Friday July 18 on the Green. The TKM All Stars recently performed at the NAMM International Music show in Anaheim, CA. The Band features local young musicians formed through Teach Kids Music, a local Nonprofit agency; they will perform at 7 p.m. In addition, Teach Kids Music, will be hosting a Used Instrument Drive” the week of July 14-18. TKM accepts donations of all types of gently used instruments, guitars, bass, keyboards, drum sets, school band instruments, ukuleles, and banjos. Instruments can be brought to Rock House School of Music 52 Collis St. or bring them the day of the concert. All instruments will be cleaned, refurbished and donated to children who cannot afford an instrument. Call (203) 934-2501, or email www.teachkidsmusic.org.

    After a successful Career Week presentation before the end of the school year, an event in which Voice Editor Bill Riccio participated, Public Relations person Bambi Grestini started picking up copies of the paper, and dropping them to the 5th grade. The photos show the rest. Next fall the school will officially restart a school newspaper with Grestini and the literature teacher as advisors.

    The Italian community in Allingtown brought the popular devotion of Our Lady of Mount Carmel to the city with the Fenwick Street Chapel and Society dedicated to the apparition. The procession of the statue, shown here, was a big part of the feast, along with entertainment and food.
