Maybe it’s more like a plank than a rug, but dancers and walkers enjoy the weekly music furnished by volunteer DJs at the Capt. Tony Deck at the end of Oak Street. For more than two decades people have congregated at the location to enjoy the cool breezes, while others have danced the night away.

ity Clerk Deborah Collins presents a gift basket stuffed with dog toys and treats to Jackie Corvera, of Arlington Street, and her 4-year-old Pomeranian, Latte, on July 12 at City Hall for winning the inaugural Dog Contest. The contest, held by the city clerk’s office, was an incentive for residents who licensed their dogs before June 30 as part of Dog Licensing Month.

Voice columnist and shutterbug Dan Shine caught this couple one morning around the Lake Street area. Shine and his pooch take a daily constitutional when most people are just getting the first inklings that the new day is upon them.

Will Panza makes play against Orange in the 12-U regional. The Westies mounted a furious comeback from a 6-0 deficit, but lost to the Orange squad, 9-8 on a walk-off double.

Hudson Axelrod pitched for the 10-U squad, which had success in its tournament run until meeting North Haven’s Max Sinoway team. The Westies lost a heart-breaker, 8-7.
Complete game
Flanagan Associates pitcher Mike Aquilino threw a complete game 4-2 Twilight League win over All-Brite last week. Aquilino struck out nine for the winners. The league is winding down its regular season as July itself winds down. Teams will then compete for spots in the annual National Amateur Baseball Federation Regionals at Quigley Stadium
