Appears in movie
Resident Rose Beloin was a recent cast member of the movie, “Tony Martone,” that premiered in the Stadium Theater, Woonsocket, RI, last week. She also appeared in a film short, “Dancing in the Dark,” that was previewed on the same night. The movie is set to hit Amazon Prime in the next few days. She is set to appear in another movie, set for release in October, and was cast in a music video now on Youtube. Many residents know her as she heads to the beach and dances on the dance deck.

West Haven in a bygone era shows two one-time landmarks of the Savin Rock Amusement Park and the resort area that made the town famous. The Old Grove teemed with families looking for a bit of fun at a time when six-day-a-week jobs were the rule, not the exception.

Lifeguards honored for heroic action
Lifeguards Issac Gorske and Madison Hobart received state citations from members of the West Haven General Assembly Delegation last Friday, in recognition of the lifeguards saving an 11-year-old boy during a water rescue in June at Oak Street Beach. The West Haven Historical Society sponsored its “Christmas in July” Craft Fair on the grounds of the historic Poli Mansion, 686 Savin Ave., which is also the organization’s headquarters. A number of crafters and artisans set up shop on the grounds with hundreds of shoppers looking to get their holiday shopping done early. The event is one of several listed for the mansion over the course of the year. Photographer Meari Avery caught a few of the crafters prior to the event’s opening.

First on the Fourth!
It was a special Fourth of July celebration at the Union School/Savin Rock Communities group at the Union School apartment complex. The residents were able to not only celebrate the nation’s birthday, but have their first group celebration in more than two years. Judging from the faces, a good time was had by all. Guest was State Rep. Dorinda Borer (D-115), who took the picture.

The Village Improvement Association, the committee that runs the city’s library system, has announced its 2022 Scholarship winners. Scholarships are funded through the VIA's endowment and generous donations in the name of former board members Pam Gardner, Gert Beckwith, Francis Blanchette, and former Library Director Connie Sacco.
