Grand Marshals Frank J. Corso and Eric Pimer sit by the reviewing stand after leading the city’s Memorial Day Parade up Campbell Avenue. After a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the parade made it back on schedule now that the state is moving toward lifting most of the restrictions imposed during the pandemic. A large crowd lined the 1.5-mile parade route, and some late-season cold and rain left the area just before the march stepped off.

Big win!
The West Haven High School baseball team won the first ever Ray Guarino game to close out the regular season. The Blue Devils topped Hamden, 7-2, to win the game, played to honor Guarino, who played for West Haven under George Hanchette, and coached the Hamden Post 88 American Legion team for seven seasons. Guarino is a well-respected baseball man, who completed his first year as an assistant at the University of Bridgeport. He coached as an assistant at Yale for many years. The 45-year old has been battling cancer for two years, and the game is a collaboration between Hamden and West Haven to show their appreciation for the impact he’s had on the programs.
