Materials donated by the West Haven Seahawks of the Ray Tellier Midget Football League were used to build a large Adirondack chair by Mike Martin’s Construction Class at the high school! The chair is located on the boardwalk at the end of Altschuler Boulevard. Pictured are Naysandro Cruz, Mike Luth, Ray Gilbert, Matt Rasile, Paul Zello, Ryan Robinson, and Martin. The students not in the photo, but who helped make the chair, are Orlando Ayala, Kayla Cedeno, John Huckabey, Joe Malangone, Danae Michael, Edrian Morales, Brandon Rodriguez, Jacob Senerchia, Cassie Wadeka, and Dakota Willette.
Mason of the Year
Brother Jerry Nero (center) was named Annawon Lodge Mason of the Year, 2023. Nero has been a member of the Lodge since 2021. He currently sits as junior deacon. He also holds memberships in numerous Masonic organizations. Nero was presented his plaque by Fellowcraft Club President and Senior Warden Joey McVety (left) and Worshipful Master Christopher Belous.

Levine was this year’s grand marshal of the West Haven Memorial Day parade, and Beck is the vice president of the West Haven Veterans Council.

Washington School replacement to begin
An artist rendering of the school was part of the presentation given prior to to approval of the plan. The venerable Washington School building, which has stood at the corner of Washington Avenue and Brown Street for 114 years will be demolished to allow construction of the new school. Students will be transported to the Molloy School site on Meloy Road for two years while construction continues.
'Superior' performances
The Bailey 8th Grade Band recently competed in the “Music in the Parks Music Festival” at Westfield State University (MA) and Six Flags of New England. There were 14 middle school and high school music groups from Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, and Connecticut who performed and received ratings based on their performances. The Bailey 8th Grade Band received the highest rating of Superior and 1st place for the division, they also received the Overall trophy for receiving the highest score of any middle school band.

Juneteenth celebration, June 17
West Haven’s third annual celebration of Juneteenth will take place on Saturday, June 17, at Brent Watt Park, 24 Tile Street in Allingtown. Admission is free for all ages. The festivities will take place between 11-3 with entertainment, food and vendor booths. Entertainment includes the Heavenly Stars singing group, Rhythm of the Heart, Comedian Terrance Dill, the Village Drill Team and many others. Free parking is available at the University of New Haven Isadore Street entrance. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved black Americans.

Troupe fundraiser
Annawon Lodge Worshipful Master Chris Belous, Senior Warden Joey McVety, Hon. Past Master Jerry Calibrito and past master Steven R. Mullins welcomed Kathleen Mulkerin-Carew and the Mulkerin School of Irish Dance to the West Haven Masonic Building for their pancake breakfast fundraiser recently. The school has been rehearsing at the lodge for several years and are raising funds for an upcoming trip to Ireland. Dozens of residents enjoyed pancakes, eggs and bacon.
