Scholarship fund benefactor
Amanda Forst, left, and Mandy Hutchinson of Westies Nutrition at 153 Sawmill Road present a $234 check in support of the West Haven Breast Cancer Awareness Program on March 13. The money will benefit the program’s Susan A. Ruickoldt Scholarship Fund. The fund was founded in March 2003 in honor of Ruickoldt, who taught third grade at Savin Rock Community School before succumbing to breast cancer in 1997. Each spring since 2003, a $2,000 check has been awarded in Ruickoldt’s memory to a female high school senior from West Haven who plans to continue her education.

Historian's Corner
Judges’ Cave is a popular site when walking West Rock. It hid regicide judges Whalley, Dixwell and Goffe following the restoration of the monarchy after the fall of the government of Oliver Cromwell. New Haven was a staunch supporter of the Puritan takeover following the English Civil War, and later lost its charter as a Proprietary Colony, absorbed in Connecticut Colony for its support.
March honorees
A breakfast was held on March 6 to recognize those 1st through 8th graders selected for Student Recognition in the month of March. This month’s award centered around the theme of kindness. Family members were on hand at the breakfast to celebrate the accomplishments of their children. The students are: Grade 1-- Brayden Nolan, Grade 2 -- Ryan Shore, Grade 3 --Jorge Zecua, Grade 4-- Karen Nimako. Grade 5 -- Aiden Gargiulo and Sofia Lupone; Grade 6 -- Gavin Roman and Sebastian Disisto, Grade 7 -- Aaron Cabacungan,. Grade 8 -- Maya Minsky. They are pictured with principal Frank Arnone.

This group of West Haven High School students learn this and other adult chores and responsibilities in a Life Skills class. The students learn about cooking, shopping and keeping a checkbook, while performing other services at the McDonough Plaza School.

Squirt AA team comes up short in regional
