Keith Sweeney was named the city’s Irishman of the Year in 2020 and will now receive the honor as its 2022 recipient at the 29th annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at noon March 17.

Ending the drought
The Rock House School of Music Open Mic Night is back after two years! More than 40 children performed live in front of a standing room only audience on Feb. 18th! The children rocked the stage at the West Haven Community House all excited to finally perform again!
Ziada was a super hero
On Friday, Feb. 18, Carrigan School hosted a ”Super Hero Day” in honor of local legend John Ziada, who recently lost his battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Ziada has been recognized time and again for his endless donations and support of all things West Haven. The Vietnam Patch Blanket, done by local VA employee Mark Matthiessen, is set to officially go on display March 26. Crews are currently constructing the exhibit background.

New UNH officer sworn in
New University of New Haven police Officer Jeff Suchy is sworn in by Mayor Nancy R. Rossi at City Hall on Feb. 17. Attending the ceremony were Suchy’s wife, Kelly, and UNH Police Chief Adam Brown. Suchy, of West Haven, recently retired from the New Haven Police Department after a 21- year career. He is a graduate of Notre Dame High School and Southern Connecticut State University.
