Safety Expo returns SaturdayAn aerial view of the fourth annual West Haven Fire, Emergency Management, 911 ERS, Police & Health Ex po at Savin Rock Park on Oct. 5, 2024. This year’s exposition of all things fire, emergency management, public safety, police and health is scheduled from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Savin Rock Park, 6 Rock St. The fifth annual event is presented by West Haven’s three fire departments and the city in observance of Fire Prevention Week. -
Troop LeaderScout Troop 821 leader Carrie Malangone congratulates member Adora Morgan after she was promoted to Senior Patrol Leader at the troop’s Court of Honor Ceremonies recently. Troop 821 is an all-girl Scout troop under Scouting America. It is the first and only girl troop in West Haven. The group is sponsored by the City of West Haven Fire Department, Allingtown. -

King feted at city’s Hispanic of YearMayor Dorinda Borer presents a citation to Hispanic American of the Year Aberlardo King, an award-winning Latino journalist, for “lifting up” the city and its vibrant Hispanic community during the seventh annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration on the steps of City Hall on Sept. 19. King also received an embroidered “Hispanic American of the Year 2025” jacket and a Dominican flag from Borer. -

West Haven SailorsIn its heyday, Quigley Stadium was home to the West Haven Sailors, a semi-professional team that played in the Connecticut State League as well as barnstorming team like the Kansas City Monarchs. In its later life it was home to the West Haven Yankees, as well as American Legion Baseball, Notre Dame High School’s baseball and football teams, and local collegiate programs. It is still home to the West Haven Twilight League and various other teams. -
