The West Haven Community House Head Start Program offers children and families a variety of educational and fun activities during the year. Among the favorite, of course, is playtime in the agency’s campus playground.
Outdoor concert
The students at Bailey Middle School were able to conduct music instruction while safely
distancing outside. All classes are doing some type of social distancing, while keeping the
ability to give the students some type of normal routine.
Feeding the needy
Mayor Nancy R. Rossi, third from left, joins Wellspring Community Center President Omer Kizilcik, fourth from left, on the steps of City Hall on Oct. 14 to announce the center’s gift of 210 pounds of ground beef to the West Haven Emergency Assistance Task Force. The donation was part of the fourth annual meat drive held by Wellspring and its sister nonprofit, Peace Islands, both of Milford. It was made possible through their partnership with the Connecticut Food Bank and Embrace Relief, a nonprofit international relief and development organization based in Fairfield, N.J.

“Fill-A-Bag" campaign
“Fill-A-Bag, Fuel-A-Mind” is a WHHS student-run club addressing issues of food insecurity. This group supports the West Haven High School free school store with fundraising efforts by focusing on aiding and supporting students with food insecurity. Students can come at any time and fill their bag up with food and other essentials they may need at home.
Rebuilding courts
Crews have been working to rebuild the tennis courts at West Haven High School over the last several weeks. The old courts and fencing were torn up, and the ground releveled. It has been more than two decades since the courts had a rebuild. The Dog Run that once ran outside the perimeter of the courts has been moved to location near the Veterans Field courts on Bull Hill Lane.
Flu prevention
As flu season approaches, West Haven High School students took steps to make sure they feel
fine. Several students joined together to create the #noflufortheblue campaign in encouraging
students to receive the flu shot at their school-based Health Center. Parents are required to sign
off on the flu consent form and Health Center form on the PowerSchool site.
Marking 65!
Roberta And Moses Douglas celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, Oct. 22. Congratulations from Bryan, Brenda, Curtis, Carmen, and granddaughter, Amber.
Westies try to pick up the pace
Neve Krajcir with a dig against Hand. The Lady Devils fought hard, but were edged out by the Tigers, 3-2, in action last week. The team is trying to work out its 1-7 start, and get itself on the wining track.
