It was a festival weekend with the Italian-American Civic Association’s Italian Festival at its 85 Chase Lane club grounds. The Navels performed during the daylong event, giving people reason to get up and dance, while a meatball eating contest had contestants getting more than their fill.

Popping up a storm

West Haven United has a Clean & Green Committee to address the need to keep the city clean and sustainable as well as an Events Committee to draw people to downtown. This is a non-political group with the goal of a long term relationship with the city itself, to promote the city and entice more involvement
An excavation crew from the city's sidewalk contractor, Elm City Materials, Inc. of Spring Street, repairs a section of sidewalk on Savin Avenue near Brown Street on Aug. 23. Citywide sidewalk repairs began in June. So far, 385 addresses have been inspected by city sidewalk inspector Ernie Chiarelli, and 343 sidewalks have been replaced or repaired by Elm City. Only sidewalks damaged by the roots of city trees are being repaired. The new sidewalks are being financed with unused state Local Capital Improvement Program funds from previous years, which were discovered by Mayor Nancy R. Rossi’s administration.
