George Ellis Company West Haven U11 girls travel team took on Naugatuck before a home crowd Friday night. With a final score of 7-1, the ball was put in the net by seven different girls: Katarina Oliveira, Lexi Lucas, Camilla Murphy, Kaylee Pellino, Nylah Beyah, Mariella Cappetta and Valentina DeMartino. Lia Powers and Katerina Oliveira moved the ball up the flanks with ease. Kayla Quintanilla and Madison Garguilo played a solid game in goal.
On Saturday afternoon, the girls were back in action, playing their first league game of the season against Prospect. Competition was tight, but the Westies proved too much for Prospect. Kayla Quintanilla was solid in goal providing many saves in both the first and second half. Forwards Kaylee Pellino and Nylah Beyah showed speed and great footskills to move the ball quickly down the field. Nylah Beyah scored in the first half for an early 1-0 lead. A shot on goal from the right side by Lexi Lucas missed but was followed up for a score by Kaylee Pellino. After a handball in the box in the second half, Camilla Murphy’s penalty shot scored for the Westies in the second half. The Westies beat Prospect, 4-2, after Camilla Murphy put another shot in goal to end the game. The Westies are now 4-0 on the season.
The Elite Soccer Camps U14 girls had a busy weekend, playing three games and going 1-1-1. On Friday night, the girls played under the lights in Wallingford falling, 3-0 against the experienced Wallingford team. Despite the score line, the Westies played a good game, passing the ball out of danger and trying to possess against their kick and run opponents. Cashlin O’Neill had several good saves in net, while Jaylyn Powell and Ava Murphy combined well in the middle of the field. On Saturday, Westies hosted Hamden winning, 6-1. Alexandria Nunes led the scoring early on, and the Westies never looked back. Ashlynn Trenchard and Molly Gunning did a great job receiving the ball and moving it up the field. Sunday, they traveled to East Haven. The weekend caught up with them, as they went down 1-0 early, but battled back for the 1-1 tie. Ariana Izzo slipped a through ball between two defenders for Isabella Eyler to run onto and finish. Camryn Flaherty was having a good game until injury forced her out early in the second half.
The P&B Express U14 Lady Westies took on Prospect Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 in a close, defensive battle. Natalie Reed, Aliana Tepetl, Amyah Kelly and Josephina Lakaj led the sustained offensive attack, but just could not find the back of the net.
The WH Professional Firefighters U12 boys improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 6-2 win over Meriden on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils controlled play throughout the match and moved the ball nicely all afternoon. Nate Charron opened the scoring in the first half when he drew a foul in the box and converted the ensuing penalty kick. After Meriden tied it, Charron intercepted a goal kick and fired a shot off the far post and in to make it 2-1. Ryan Malone pounced on the rebound and knocked it in with a feet-first slide. Mehmet Aciker and Maicon Miguel were terrific playing outside defense while Brown was dominant at center back.
The West Shore Family Dental U10 girls traveled to Naugatuck on Sunday, where they defeated the host team, 4-0. Kylie Gibbons led the way with two goals. Sophia Empric and Chelsea Hernandez also contributed to the scoring.
The West Haven Police Local 895 Yellow Jackets put out a strong effort this weekend, picking up their first win of the season, taking on the Milano and Wanat Blue Flames. Aubrey Pellino led the attack from the midfield and scored off of some great foot skills to get around the defense. Cataleya Williams used her defensive skills to stop several attacks by the navy blue team.
The Nick’s Luncheonette Dragons took on Oyster River Energy, with the Dragons taking the win, 6-1. Ayebatonye Isaac, Jacob Warren and Sammy Gartani led the way and scored for the Dragons. The Top Hat Dance Academy Green Crocodiles and WH Italian American Civic Assn. battled Saturday morning, with the Crocs coming out on top, 6-1. Kendall Gilchrist dominated on defense while Julissa Oliveras was great on both sides of the ball. Avery Linen came close to scoring her first goal but was denied by the post.
The Frank Agvent Plumbing and Heating Blue Thunder defeated the Gold Stars, 5-0. Sarah Davey had many key stops as goalie and Amyah Kelly had several carries and passes into open space. For the Gold Stars, Anna Sicotte defended the goal well, with many key plays. Tania Garcia Poou stayed in goal the entire second half and played excellent defense. The Stars Ice Cream Warriors defeated the Rock House School of Music, 7-2. Dulce Poou Giron picked up the hat trickgoals, and Natlie Soto and Haley Colon scored two apiece. Allorra Hildebrand played a good game in goal.
The Cappetta’s Italian Imports Polar Bears played a tough game against Keenan Funeral Home, coming up short in a 4-2 loss. Luciana Cappetta scored for the Polar Bears, and some great work on the field was on display by Annabelle Fiorello and Celeste DiNallo. The WH Federation of Teachers Local 1542 Mini Blueberries played FG4. Joelle Dixon improved her game play this week. Anessa Worrell scored, giving her team the lead early on. It was a close game, but FG4 came out on top, 6-5. Sweet Relief Catering Blue Thunder played to a 0-0 tie with Barcode. It was a well-played game with excellent defense from Isaac Irizzarry,Omari Knox, and Nicolas Rosero.
The Gunning Law Firm U10 Girls defeated Shoreline Wellness, 6-0 behind three goals from Sophia Empric. Kylie Gibbons, Chelsea Hernandez and Arianna Throm also scored. Lulu Sebas and Lynnie Chesson combined for the shutout in goal.
The Porto Funeral Home-Navy Shark took on Gunning Law Firm losing, 7-6. Ammiel Perez played well in attack and defense for the Navy Sharks. Adam Lennon played tenacious defense and was also a wonderboy on offense, scoring a late goal.
The Elite Soccer Camps Golden Dragons took on the Jason Ranalli Warriors Saturday morning in a tough contest. The Elite Soccer Dragons were able to edge by their opponents in the end winning, 8-5. Ben Trenchard picked up two goals, the first off of a corner kick play where Matteo D’Elia picked up the assist. Jesus Rangel played a solid game, showing a lot of hustle in the win for the Elite Soccer Dragons.
