The West Haven boys hockey traveled to the campus of Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon to take on the three-seeded Xavier Falcons in the first round of the CIAC tournament. The Falcons took an early 1-0 lead just 2:31 into the game when they cashed in on a rebound in front of Logan Cole that was shot in between Cole and a diving Ryan Smith. The Blue Devils had a chance a few minutes later when Nick Boanno had a breakaway but was denied by the Falcons’ goaltender.
Logan Cole made several, spectacular saves to keep the score close in the first period but, 46 seconds into the second period Xavier extended its lead to 2-0. The Falcons increased their lead to 3-0 and then with 3:43 left in the game sealed the victory with their fourth goal of the afternoon for the 4-0 final.
Congratulations to Veronica Lynn and Taylor Nowak on being selected to the Connecticut High School Girls Hockey Association All-State Team. It was the second year in a row that Lynn, who is a junior, has been recognized with All-State honors.
