


The West Haven baseball team is looking to qualify for the postseason. The Westie still have some work to do.
Scoring twice in the third inning and three times in the fifth inning, West Haven scored six unanswered runs to defeat Shelton, 6-4.
Jose Padilla and Brady Price led the West Haven offense with two hits apiece, while Padilla scored twice. Ryan Wilson pitched four innings in relief, allowing two hits and no runs, while striking out three and walking two.
Sandwiching four runs in the first and third innings around a run in the second, Trumbull cruised to a 12-1 five inning, mercy-rule victory over the Westies. West Haven dropped to 2-5 with the loss.
West Haven’s lone run came in the fourth inning when Price doubled and scored on a single by Connor Hume.
Behind a solid pitching performance from Hume and clutch team hitting, West Haven defeated Law, 6-1 on the road. With the win, West Haven improved to 3-5.
Hume tossed a complete-game four-hitter, striking out nine and walking one. The senior did not allow an earned run.
Axelrod, Padilla, and Price each had a pair of hits, with Axelrod and Price each driving in a pair. Jones scored twice in the win.
West Haven fell to 3-6 on the year with an 8-4 home loss against Foran. The Lions scored once in the first and four times in the second and never looked back.
Murray and Justin Wilson led the West Haven offense with three hits apiece. Murray also scored twice in the loss.
Looking to get on a roll, West Haven jumped out to an early lead over Cheshire. Unfortunately for the Westies, Cheshire took the lead for good in the fifth inning and held on to defeat the Westies, 6-5 at Piurek Field.
Padilla, Price, and Hume led the offense with two hits apiece, with Padilla driving in two runs. Axelrod also drove in a pair.
Knowing the games are becoming crucial, West Haven rallied to defeat Morgan, 8-2 at Piurek Field. West Haven improved to 4-7 with the win.
Padilla led the way with three of the team’s 10 hits, while Douglas recorded two hits. Padilla also scored three runs and drove in another, while Douglas and Jones each scored twice.
The West Haven softball team fell to 2-2 with a 14-8 loss against Lyman Hall at Biondi Field. The Westies led 8-6 after four innings, but Lyman Hall scored eight runs in the final three innings to pull out the win.
Natalie Gallo and Sarah Davey led the Westies with two hits apiece, while Davey and Abigail Wynus each drove in a pair, Wynus scored three times, and Gallo scored twice.
West Haven improved to 3-2 with a 13-0, five inning, mercy rule, victory over Hamden. Wynus provided the late dramatics as her grand slam ended the game in the fifth inning.
Davey scored three runs, Gallo, Isabella Petruzziello, and Kaczmarek each scored twice, Aniah Glover drove in a pair, and Wynus delivered four with the grand slam.
Gallo tossed a complete game, allowing just three hits in five innings of work. Gallo walked one and struck out 12 in the win.
West Haven fell to 3-3 with a 15-0 mercy-rule shortened contest against North Haven. The loss was West Haven’s second in three games.
West Haven made four errors in the game, leading to eight unearned runs. Ryan had West Haven’s lone hit in the contest.
West Haven dropped its second straight contest, falling on the road to Sheehan, 7-0. With the loss, the Westies dropped to 3-4 on the year.
The Westies had only four hits in the game, with Davey picking up three of those hits. Glover had the other West Haven hit in the contest. Gallo went the distance for the Westies, allowing five earned runs. Gallo walked five and struck out four.
West Haven ran into a tough Amity squad at Biondi Field. Despite trailing by just one run early, the Westies watched as Amity pounded 14 hits on its way to a 16-2 victory over West Haven in a game stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Gallo led West Haven with two of the team’s three hits, while Isabel Abrego had the other West Haven hit.
West Haven dropped its fourth straight contest with a 20-3 loss to Jonathan Law in a game stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule at Biondi Field.
The Westies had only six hits in the game, with Gallo leading the way with a pair. Glover, Wynus, Ryan, and Kaczmarek also added hits in the loss.
West Haven fell to 3-7 with an 11-2 home loss against Mercy. Wynus led the West Haven offense with two hits, including a home run. Davey and Abrego also had hits in the loss.
The girls tennis team dropped to 0-4 with a 6-1 home defeat against Jonathan Law. West Haven’s lone victory came in singles play as top-seeded Sophie Mazuroski defeated Harshitha Kothapalli, 6-1, 6-3.
Law was victorious in the rest of the matches as Courtney Russo topped Niamh Chesson 6-2, 6-3 in the second slot, third-seeded Siya Patil defeated Lisa Hennessey 6-1, 6-0, and fourth-seeded Rose O’Connell won over Michelle Ceja, 6-0, 3-1 (ret.).
In doubles action, top-seeded Brianna Madelung and Kacey Pagaduan defeated Monserrat Acoltzi and Haley Violante-Fletcher, 6-1, 6-0, second-seeded Carol Jiang and Lasya Pydipati topped Maggie Pierce and Martha Augustin, 6-2, 6-0, and third-seeded Cora Aitkenhead and Isla McKeand defeated Cheyenne Lezcano and Laurie Simeon, 6-1, 6-0.
The West Haven girls tennis team posted a 4-3 road victory over Hamden.
In singles action, top-seeded Mazuroski defeated Charlotte Sansone, 6-0, 6-1, second-seeded Chesson topped Cynthia Egwuekwe, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, while third-seeded Hennessey fell to Olivia Lancor, 6-1, 6-2, and fourth-seeded Ceja lost to Ella Waller, 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles action, top-seeded Acoltzi and Violante- Fletcher topped Charlotte Trama and Emily Lee, 6-3, 6-4. Hamden’s second seed of Sahana Sodd and Kassandra Biagton defeated West Haven ,4-6, 6-4, 7-5, while West Haven’s third seed of Lezcano and Simeon won over Jahmai Rose and Marianna Titu,s 7-5, 7-5.
The West Haven boys lacrosse team improved to 2-2 with an 8-7 road victory over Montville.
Even at one, West Haven pulled away with five second quarter goals for a 6-2 lead. Trailing by three, Montville outscored the Westies 4-2 in the fourth quarter, but West Haven held on for its second victory of the year.
A.J. Iannotti led the Westies with three goals and two assists, Anthony DiMeglio had two goals and two assists, and Thomas Porto scored twice and added an assist. James Olsen scored once, while Brandon Doody and Sebastian Oceguera each had an assist.
Cole Hill won 18 faceoffs for the Westies. West Haven held a 35-29 shot advantage in the game with Xavier Nogue making 10 saves in the victory.
The girls lacrosse team battled, but the Westies fell short in a 14-9 home loss to Mercy. Chloe Whelan and Delaney Johnston each scored four times, while Juliana Gonzalez scored once for West Haven.
West Haven battled, but the Westies came up short in a 9-6 loss at Hamden. Whelan led the way for the Westies with three goals and an assist, while Johnston scored twice, and Madden Evangeliste scored once in the loss.
West Haven fell on the road to North Haven, 13-11. Johnston led the Westies with six goals, Whelan had two goals and five assists, while Mia Sky Roman, Gonzalez, and Evangeliste each scored once.
Whelan and Gonzalez each had three ground balls, while Johnston and Whelan each recorded four draw controls.
West Haven topped Jonathan Law, 14-11, for its first victory of the season. The home victory saw senior Whelan record her 100th career point.
West Haven fell 14-2 against Trumbull at Ken Strong Stadium. Roman and Whelan scored for the Westies.
Aubrey Szostek made nine saves in the loss, while Johnston led the Westies with five shots on goal. Johnston also added an assist in the loss as West Haven dropped to 1-8.
