At its Aug. 28 meeting, the West Haven City Council honored the life of the late John Ziada, owner of Z’s Corner Cafe’ on the corner of Campbell Avenue and Court Street. The Council named that corner “Z’s Corner.”\
Ziada, commonly known as “Johnny Z,” died February 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 53 years old.
Ziada was remembered for being more than a local business owner.
“Johnny was the epitome of West Haven being the friendliest city in Connecticut.” Said Republican City Councilwoman-at-Large Colleeen O’Connor, who had known Ziada since she was age nine and he seven.
Ziada was best known for donating to many of West Haven’s charities.
“He was a pillar of the community, who did anything that was asked of him.” Said Democrat First District Councilwoman Bridget Hoskie. “He was an amazing Westie.”
O’Connor and Hoskie joined Mayor Nancy R. Rossi in presenting a street sign marking the corner’s distinction to Ziada’s widow Susie and their daughters Samira and Zienna during the meeting.
