

The West Haven baseball team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion with a 10-0 victory over Brien McMahon in a game stopped in the sixth inning due to the mercy rule.
Colin Murray led the offense with three hits, three runs batted in, and two runs scored, while Jose Padilla had three hits and scored once. Xavier Molina also had a solid day at the plate with two hits, two runs batted in, and one run scored.
With the offense clicking, starting pitcher Cam Lipford cruised to the victory. Lipford went six innings, allowing two hits, while walking one and striking out six.
West Haven scored all the runs it would need in the fourth inning, pushing four runners across the plate.
Matt Pasacreta reached on an error to start the frame, Padilla singled, and Murray doubled to right center to score Pasacreta for a 1-0 lead. Justin Wilson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, before Lipford reached on an error to score Padilla and Murray. Wilson scored the final run of the inning on a steal of home.
The Westies put the game away with four more runs in the fourth inning. Jordan Sirabionian walked, Rob Jackson was hit by a pitch, and Padilla hit a one-out single to load the bases. Murray followed with a single to right to score Sirabionian and Jackson, before Murray scored on a wild pitch, and Molina singled to score Wilson for an 8-0 lead.
The Westies won the game with a pair of runs in the sixth. Wilson led off with a walk, Lipford singled, and Molina singled to score Wilson. Molina scored on a wild pitch to end the contest.
West Haven fell to 1-1 with a 13-0 loss at Hand-Madison in a game stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule.
While managing only four hits, Hand took advantage of 11 West Haven walks in the victory. The Westies had just two hits, one apiece from Lipford and Molina, in the loss.
The softball team opened the season with a 17-0 thumping over Platt Tech in a game stopped in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.
Freshman Gillian Wynus tossed a complete-game, no-hitter, striking out 12 and walking two.
Abby Wynus led the offense with two hits, three runs scored, and one run batted in. London Ryan had two hits, two run scored, and two runs batted in, Dianna Salce scored three runs, and Maddy Kaczmarek had one hit, scored twice, and drove in one run.


West Haven scored all the runs it needed with six in the first inning. Abby Wynus led off with a triple and scored when Kaczmarek reached on an error.
Kaczmarek scored on a passed ball, Isabel Abrego scored on a wild pitch, Emma Hudson scored on a ground out by Juliana Crudo, Gillian Wynus scored on a wild pitch, and Salce scored on a single by Natalia Szostek for a 6-0 advantage.
Hudson singled to score Ryan in the second for a 7-0 lead, before Abby Wynus singled to score Crudo for a 9-0 lead in the third inning. Ryan later singled to score Abby Wynus for a 10-0 lead in the third.
The Westies improved to 2-0 with an 8-6 victory over Branford. Abby Wynus led the offense with three hits, two runs batted in, and two runs scored, Gillian Wynus had three hits, three runs batted in, and scored once, and Kaczmarek added two hits, drove in one run, and scored once.
Gillian Wynus went the distance in the pitching circle, allowing three earned runs, while striking out 11 and walking three batters.
West Haven led 3-0 after one inning, and 7-1 after four innings of play, before the Hornets rallied for five runs in the fifth inning. Kaczmarek’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning scored Abby Wynus with an insurance run for the 8-6 lead.
Kaczmarek and Ryan walked with one out in the first, before Hudson’s two-out single scored Kaczmarek for a 1-0 lead. Ryan and Hudson scored when Gillian Wynus tripled to center.
West Haven increased the lead to 4-1 in the second when Abby Wynus tripled to right to score Salce. The Westies increased the lead to 5-1 in the third when Gillian Wynus singled and later scored on a wild pitch.
Abby Wynus homered to right for a 6-1 lead in the fourth, and Gillian Wynus doubled later in the inning to score Abrego, who had reached on an error.
The boys lacrosse team opened the season with a hard-fought 7-6 home loss to Rockville. Anthony Iannotti scored all six goals for the Westies.
The West Haven girls lacrosse team opened the season with a 16-2 home loss against Rockvile. Paige Kenny and Melissa Valtierra scored for the Westies.
West Haven fell to 0-2 with a 23-1 road loss at Branford. Madden Evangeliste scored the lone goal for West Haven.
