Order of Towman
Robert Bruneau of Bruneau’s Garage was inducted in to the Order of Towman by American Towman Magazine. The cross of the order, a Maltese Cross with a unique towing icon sculpted inside, is awarded to a towing professional for his dedication to the towing trade and for serving the community He was nominated by Chief James P. O’Brien of the West Haven Fire Dept. Bruneau received the honor on Nov. 13, during the 32nd annual American Towman Exposition in Baltimore. His wife, Maureen, is shown after pinning the award.
NC firm makes pitch at city composting site
Leah Retherford, an engineering project manager for Atlas Organics of South Carolina, shows the composting company’s extended aerated static pile composting system to area municipal officials, members of the South Central Regional Council of Governments and officials of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection at the West Haven compost site Dec. 14.

UNH men's hockey team aids needy
University of New Haven men’s hockey coach Devin Bertrand, right, presents several bags and boxes of food items to West Haven Youth and Family Services Director Diane Dietman in the second-floor hallway of City Hall on Nov. 30. The UNH hockey team collected the nonperishable items from players, coaches, staff members and fans during a food drive at West Haven’s Bennett Rink on Nov. 20. Dietman said the food will benefit families of the West Haven Interagency Network for Children.

St. Lawrence School recently celebrated its Students of the Month for October in a ceremony held at the school. The students were honored for their academics and achievements in the classroom. The 35-member Carrigan Intermediate School council helped organize a school-wide toy drive to benefit the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital “Toy Closet Program.” More than 800 toys were collected and donated to this amazing program at Yale. Carrigan staff and students have supported this program for 10 years and were recently recognized by the YNNH board of directors for years of support and donations to the program. Last, the chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, was unable to attend West Haven’s inaugural recently because he was in Orlando, Fla., with the West Haven Seahawks of the Ray Tellier Midget Football League.
