    The Savin Rock Conference Center has seen two private owners, a city takeover under the Shoreline agreement of the 1980s, and a point of contention over a two-year effort to make it a taproom/brewery under NEBCO.

    The original plan for the building that was to replace the current building. That, too, has been scrapped in order to expedite the process.

    Joseph F. McVety, Jr., aka “Joey Bond” was formally installed as Master of Annawon Lodge, #115 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of West Haven Saturday morning during colorful and elaborate rites. He replaces Worshipful Master Christopher Ryan Belous.

    West Haven High School received a grant of $100,000 to combat food need across the district. Students in the Life Skills program used that money to purchase groceries at Stop & Shop, and on Dec. 21, they delivered those groceries to families at Forest Elementary School! Coats, provided by the West Haven Rotary Club, were also available for pickup.

    Carrigan Student Council members collected about 400 new, unwrapped toys, and delivered them to the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital Toy Closet warehouse. Almost all the student council members have received a toy from the Toy Closet at least once in their lives.

Esposito of the City of West Haven Fire Department Allingtown at a news conference Jan. 3 to call attention to the dangers of space heaters. The fire safety news conference took place at the department’s Minor Park Station, 318 Fairfax St., and included remarks by Terenzio and Blumenthal (D-Conn). Blumenthal has introduced the Safer Heat Act of 2023 to require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to “issue a consumer product safety standard for portable electric heating devices,” such as requiring manufacturers to install an automatic shut-off mechanism.
