West Haven High School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) performed a mock car crash to educate students on the dangers of drunk driving ahead of prom season, and the life-changing effects some of those decisions can have. The demonstration included actor portrayals of parents and students, simulated injuries and death, damaged vehicles with extrication tools used by firefighters, mock arrests, and ambulance and hearse transports. Included in supporting the program were: Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the West Haven Fire Department, the West Haven Police Department, West Haven ERS, West Haven City Hall, Bruneau’s Garage, American Medical Response, and the West Haven Funeral Home.

Genesis Medica opens walk-in medical center

The rebuilt West Haven location, formerly Tony & Gary Hair Salon, is Genesis Medica’s newest walk-in center for primary care and addiction medicine.
The 1,800-square-foot office flanks the city’s bustling Route 34 commercial corridor and joins Genesis walk-in centers in Milford and New Haven.
Genesis specializes in patient-centered care tailored to individual needs, said Aggarwal, the lead physician.
Services are offered for wellness and illness visits, smoking cessation, health screenings, physicals, allergy testing, chronic illness management, weight loss management and opioid addiction treatment.
Medicaid, Medicare and commercial insurances are accepted.
The West Haven office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
New UNH officers

St. Lawrence School celebrated its Students of the Month for April in a ceremony held at the school this week. The students were honored for their academics and achievements in the classroom. Each student was awarded a pin and certificate, and the students, along with their parents, were invited to have breakfast with The Rev/ Jose Mercado, pastor, and Principal Paul DeFonzo. 'Singing day'
West Haven High School hosted a ‘Signing Day’ for the 10 seniors who have committed to playing a sport in college on April 27. It was the first time that WHHS held such an event, which took place in the all-purpose room of the high school.
Co-athletic directors Mike Anquillare and Joe Morrell arranged the event, and invited family and friends of the student-athletes. The 10 student-athletes were first introduced to the audience and then posed for photos with their coach and/or family members while pretending to sign a national letter of intent. At the end of the event, the student-athletes posed for more photos with their family and friends.
The 10 WHHS student-athletes who have committed to play a sport in college are Immanuel Belcher, Anna Maria College (football); Paige Beurer, Framingham State University (softball); Brian Carew, Endicott College (soccer); Jamaine Galloway, Southern Connecticut State University (football); Gianni Gambardella, University of Maine (baseball); Victor Lorenzo Lara, Elms College (soccer); Kyshawn Togba, Southern Connecticut State University (football); Caitlin Welch, Nichols College (lacrosse); Paul Williams, Western New England University (football); and Donaldo Yanez, Post University (soccer).
