Following a tradition that goes back to the 1970s, we honor the warriors of the gridiron on this Thanksgiving Day. Meanwhile, Notre Dame’s Green Knights has its annual tussle at Hamden High School’s Bruno Field, taking on the Green Dragons in the 2023 edition of the Green Bowl.
On display
Noreen Adams, Ms. Connecticut Senior World, was chosen to appear in the July issue, Red, White, Blue feature of Crowns Magazine which was taken at an appearance for Veteran’s Day at the West Haven Veterans Museum. Arlene DeGrande, director ordered a Magazine to display. The cover was also displayed at the Pub 34 in West Haven.
WHFD ornaments on sale
The WHFD Historical Library presents its 2023 Pewter Christmas Ornament featuring the Gamewell Alarm Box which graced the poles of West Haven for many years. This is the fifth ornament in the series. The cost of this year’s ornament is $20. There are limited amounts of previous ornaments for sale as well. The cost to purchase the previous ornaments is $10, with the purchase of our 2023 ornament (while supplies last). The list includes: 2019 – 1911 Badge; 2020 – Sold out; 2021 – Elm Street HQ; 2022 – 1889 Hand Pumper. Bargain Bingers opens
Mayor Nancy R. According to Jordan Greenstein, the store offers savings up to 85% off retail prices. Bin items drop in price daily until sold, he said, starting at $10 with fresh merchandise coming in weekly. In addition, all profits from selling items received as donations support people in need, Greenstein said. The ribbon-cutting included giveaways for veterans.

Quinnipiac bound
Mia Rubirosa, a senior outfielder on the WHHS softball team, signed her National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue her playing career at NCAA Division I Quinnipiac University. Mia signed her NLI on National Signing Day, Nov. 8, in front of her family, teammates, coaches, and WHHS staff.

Swarming tackle
The West Haven defense swarms for a tackle of a Cheshire rusher in West Haven’s 25-14 win over the Rams at Cheshire. The Westies were scheduled to play Fairfield Prep at Ken Strong Stadium Wednesday night, and could end the season with a 9-1 record, and berth in the CIAC Class LL playoff s. Pairings will be published on Friday, with games beginning Tuesday night.

UNH Officer sworn in
New University of New Haven police Officer Thomas Minar pauses with Mayor Nancy R. Rossi after being sworn in by Rossi at City Hall on Friday. Minar is a former Bridgeport police lieutenant who recently retired after a 30-year career. The ceremony was attended by Minar’s wife, Joyce, and stepson, Andrew Drake, along with UNH Deputy Police Chief Brett Mahoney.
