Kross’ story personalizes 9/11 tragedyPeople hold candles at the Richard S. Gabrielle Sept. 11 Memorial on the boardwalk to mark the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Members of the West Haven Rotary Club distributed the candles at the granite monument, which was paid for by the service club in 2002. Gabrielle, 50, of West Haven, was killed during the 2001 attack on the twin towers in New York’s World Trade Center complex. An insurance broker at Aon Corp., he was last seen on the south tower’s 78th floor.

Class of '74The West Haven High School Class of 1974 recently celebrated its 50th reunion weekend. The class enjoyed a first night at the West Haven Elks, followed by a dinner at Lorenzo’s, and a class picnic at Painter Park. On hand was a special visit by the West Haven Blue Devil.

Christine Ruggiero marks 100th birthdayWest Haven Senior Center member Christine Ruggiero receives a citation in honor of her 100th birthday from Mayor Dorinda Borer during a celebration with fellow members Sept. 10. Borer recognized the centenarian and “avid bingo player” for “leading a remarkable life.” Reading the citation, the mayor said, “Your rich legacy is a source of inspiration for all Westies and is rooted in the heart of the American spirit.”
